August Meeting Highlights
We had a good turnout for the August membership meeting held at The Tavern II on August 18th. We heard from three speakers: Ako Abdul-Samad, representative of House District 35; Kenan Judge, candidate for House District 44; and Kristin Sunde, candidate for House District 42.
Rep. Abdul-Samad is CEO of Creative Visions, a non-profit organization in Des Moines. He gave us an overview of the history of and important work done by Creative Visions. He invited the WDM Democrats to visit their headquarters on 13th Street and Forest Avenue and then consider volunteering on a regular basis.
Kenan Judge is running for HD44, a district that includes part of the west side of West Des Moines as well as Waukee. He filled us in on why he is running for the House and how we can help his campaign. Kenan is out every day knocking on voters' doors and welcomes volunteers to join him. Victor Dutchuk, president of the WDM Democrats, presented Kenan with a check for $250 to help support his campaign.
Kristin Sunde, candidate for HD42, told us about her experiences as a foster parent that motivated her to run for the House. She was joined by her mother who is coordinating biweekly postcard-writing meetings to help her daughter's campaign. Kristin also received a $250 check from Victor.
Victor announced that the WDM Democrats are also contributing $250 to Jennifer Konfrst (candidate for HD43) and Claire Celsi (candidate for SD21). We are also contributing $500 to support Cindy Axne's campaign for Congress in CD3.
